DODGEBALL TEAM MAKES COUNTRY FINALS - REPORT BY MR CAIN
We entered the local dodgeball tournament with eagerness. But when we got there we saw two teams who made last year nationals, so we knew it was going to be a tough day. However, we won our first four games 8-2, 10-0, 6-4, 8-2, heading into the Barnes fixture who were also unbeaten at this stage. Despite being 5-3 down, with one game to go, we won that with an inspirational performance from Isla who was the last player left to be eliminated. She found that extra something to eliminate four of the Barnes players to win and ensure a tie. At this point we were in the lead by a five goal difference point. We then played last year's national finalist Kilburn 6-4 in an epic encounter. Initially, we were 4-2 behind but our perseverance got us over the line. Our final match was against Cheam. We won 10-0 in what was a dominating performance against another team that made the national finals last year. Now, it is on to the county finals. Well done Alana, Sassy, Seb, Oli, Eli, Alex, Raff and 'player of the day,' voted by her peers, Isla 🤾
HURRAH - OUR BOYS WIN BOROUGH FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT AND QUALIFY FOR THE LONDON GAMES- REPORT BY MR CAIN
It has been a hugely successful week for our boys' football team. OnTuesday they won the Pokemon Cup which enables them to represent Richmond at the London Games. This is such a wonderful result and we are all so pleased for them and Mr Cain. And, as if that was not enough, they followed that with a resounding win at Wednesday's Borough Football Tournament. We will leave their proud coach, Danny Cain, to give you the lowdown ...Thank you to Raffy's Mum, Jen, for these lovely photographs
On Tuesday at the Pokemon Cup, our boys did not just deliver, rather they put down a marker for all the other schools to take note. We played seven games in a round robin league competition, winning all six with a +51 goal difference, finishing 1st and taking our place at the London Games. The football, the attitude and the desire to keep going, even when games were already won, was absolutely fantastic. We go again, well done Aydin, Ali, Peyton, Seb, Raff, Oli, Freddie and Alexander. We received some fantastic comments from the other school coaches and parents, including: "Are all of your boys academy players?" and "You can tell this is a well coached team!"
Here are the statistics from the day:
SS 10 v 2 Lowther
SS 8 v 1 St Richards
SS 10 v 1 Sacred Heart
SS 8 v 1 Mary Mags
SS 8 v 0 Meadlands
SS 9 v 0 St Mary's
Next up was the Boys' Borough Football Tournament, where we pitted ourselves against the teams from thirty-four other Richmond schools. We were put in a tough group but managed to secure maximum points in our four games, which ensured a top place finish. This put us in the cup which consisted of all the teams in the borough that finished in the top 2 of their groups. We then continued on good form and won all our games in this group, knowing only the winners would qualify for the semi-finals. In the semi-finals we battled ferociously and came out winners again to book our place in the final. And, despite winning the final on penalties, it was never in doubt. The boys were amazing because they not only won the tournament but did so without conceding a goal. This is unprecedented and can be attributed to their organisation, willingness, determination in and out of possession and general fantastic sporting spirit. Well done to Aydin, Alex, Peyton, Raff, Freddie, Seb and joint players of the tournament Ali and Oli. I am so proud of each and everyone of you.

GIRLS' FOOTBALL- REPORT BY MR RYAN - 25th November
The girls were confident going into the tournament after their previous fixtures and it showed in their performances. We finished joint top in our group and headed into the cup draw. Unfortunately, the results did not go our way but the resilience and determination showed by the team was to be admired. We finished in the top 20 of all the schools in the borough.
A massive well done to Florence, Emi, Niamh, Sassy, Violet, Alana, Miriam, Isla.
STEPHEN'S CLINCHES THE BRONZE SLOT IN COUNTRY CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP - REPORT BY MR CAIN - 25th November
Last week we attended the annual county cross country meet, with all the local schools competing. We came a fabulous third overall, with our boys running in at second place and the girls crossing the finishing line an unbelievable sixth. All our boys finished in the top 35, while all our girls were placed in the top 60. It was amazing to see more than 600 children running. We must give a particular mention to the performance of the day from Violet, who finished third overall - this is the most wonderful achievement. I am so very proud of our runners. Well done Violet, Sarah, Isla, Emi, Florence Miriam, Raff, Eli, Oli, Alex J, Alex G and Freddie.
TAG RUGBY REPORT BY MR CAIN - FRIDAY 21ST OCTOBER
This week, along with thirty six other local schools, we attended the annual borough Tag Rugby tournament at Richmond Rugby Club. We moved through the first group stage, remaining unbeaten and really got into our groove as the matches progressed, with a particularly pleasing 4-0 win over Barnes in the third game of four. This meant we qualified for the cup by playing some fantastic rugby. However, we lost our final group game, so didn't quite make it to the semis, finishing a great fifth overall. There was some wonderful rugby from all our players. Isla's fantastic defensive work meant she was voted 'player of the day' due to her heroic efforts. But also special mentions to Freddie, Oli, Seb, Ali, Sassy, Alana, Alex and Eli who all contributed to our overall performance. We now move to our league matches which start after half term. After today's great performance, we are really looking forward to them.
FOOTBALL REPORT BY MR CAIN Friday 18th October
The boys started their league campaign against Holy Trinity and despite a sloppy start after falling behind before the break, they triumphed in the second half. They kept the ball well, exploited spaces, won duels across the pitch and finished as much deserved 4-1 winners. Seb scored a hat-trick and Alexander scored a debut goal. Well done to Aydin, Ali, Peyton, Freddie, Oli, Alexander, Raff and Seb.
The girls football team also started their league campaign against Holy Trinity and continued their goal scoring form. A strong team performance was consistent from the first whistle. The girls were a credit to themselves, showing great teamwork, great passing and clinical finishing. A deserved 8-0 win with goals coming from Niamh x3, Florence x2, Sofia x2, Sassy x1. Well done to Isla, Sassy, Alana, Emi, Niamh, Florence, Sofia, Miriam.
FOOTBALL NEWS FROM MR CAIN - FRIDAY 4TH OCTOBER 2024
Our girls and boys both played friendly matches against Springfield Junior School. It is the beginning of the season and I am so proud of everyone who took part. The boys team is experienced but huge congratulations to the girls too, who have not played as many matches. We are hoping to give these and other girls an opportunity to play in the team in upcoming fixtures. This fixture gave the boys an opportunity to try new things and the girls a chance to showcase themselves to get into the team for the first league game.
Mr Ryan will be coaching the girls team this season alongside Mr.Cain coaching the boys team.
The boys struggled, especially in the first half, to find their feet but managed to secure a 2-2 draw and probably would have snatched the win, given another 5 minutes.
The girls, however, did a great job winning 7-0. All the girls were pushing themselves, showcasing themselves as there are limited spots available for our upcoming league matches. Some great performances and some amazing goals and my favourite is the clean results sheet!
Well done to Isla, Florence, Emi, Miriam, Alana, Niamh, Florence, Sofia, Eliza, Sassy, Oli, Aydin, Freddie, Seb, Peyton, Raff and Alistair.
GOLDEN GLORY FOR YEAR SIX FOOTBALL BOYS - REPORT BY MR CAIN - W/C 9TH SEPTEMBER
Last Saturday we travelled to Hampton School for a boys' football tournament which featured a combination of local state and private schools.
After performing so well season last year I was so looking forward to working with this team again, a year oldder and wiser. The boys understanding of the game has deepened so much due to both our school and Brentford training. We started the tournament well, winning our opening game. And despite losing the second game, we remained unbeaten for the rest of the tournament. However, it did go down to last game, where we needed a win to clinch the top spot. A draw would not have been good enough and the boys dug deep and fought hard for a 1-0 win. This ensured we brought home the gold medal, winning the Year Six section. Well done to all the boys - Aydin, Peyton, Oli, Seb, Freddie and Raff. We are all so proud of you.
ST STEPHEN'S GETS TOP PLATINUM SPORTS AWARD- W/C 9TH SEPTEMBER
Gold simply was not good enough, they had to give us platinum. We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a platinum level Sports Games Mark for our PE and sports provision. Sports Games Mark is a government-led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. To achive this highest of accreditations our school had to meet a stringent list of criteria, proving we engage all our children in PE and games, nurturing their involvement, whatever their abilities. We also compete in competitions in many sports and so much more. All in all, we are hugely proud of this achievement. Many thanks to Mr Cain and his team and all our children for having such a positive approach to PE and games. Here we give you Mr Cain and some of our Year Six who took to the playground for a mass cheer in celebration. And who can blame them!
